Hi, I’m Shawn,
I’m a registered dietitian based in Hampshire, UK, and founder of Nourish Mum & Baby.
I specialise in evidence-based nutrition support for mums, babies, and families, with a focus on infant feeding, postpartum nutrition, and helping parents feel confident in making informed, practical food choices during early life stages.
Alongside my clinical work, I am also a father to a young daughter. My personal experience at home has included navigating infant weaning, supporting my wife through a pregnancy complicated by gestational diabetes, and being closely involved in her postpartum recovery. These experiences have reinforced the importance of translating clinical nutrition guidance into realistic, sustainable approaches that work in everyday family life.
My professional background spans NHS and community healthcare settings, including specialist experience in home enteral feeding, general dietetics clinics, and public health nutrition. I have also been involved in academic teaching and research in nutrition and dietetics since 2018.
I hold a BSc and Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, followed by an MSc in Dietetics from Nelson Mandela University, where my research focused on malnutrition in young children. I later completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education and a PhD in 2022, with research exploring the causes of malnutrition in women and children. I am also the author of a published textbook, recognised with the British Dietetic Association’s Elizabeth Washington Award in 2023.
Through Nourish Mum & Baby, my aim is to provide clear, evidence-based, and practical nutrition guidance that supports parents through weaning and postpartum recovery, helping them feel informed, confident, and supported at every stage.
Nourish Mum & Baby is part of McLaren Dietetics, a registered dietetic practice founded by Dr Shawn McLaren. McLaren Dietetics provides evidence-based nutrition support across clinical dietetics, with a specialist focus on maternal and infant nutrition.
